Carolina Frantz Has Been Named the Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 Inspire Change Changmaker! Congratulations to Carolina Frantz, a distinguished NAHN member and leader, for being named the 2024 Inspire Change Changemaker Awardee by the Pittsburgh Steelers! Carolina, the Past President of the NAHN Pittsburgh Chapter and a longtime member of the NAHN Communications Committee, will be honored during the Steelers' Christmas Day game. Her remarkable contributions to her community and dedication to advancing equitable healthcare are truly inspiring.
Crystal Loucel was Recently Featured in a PCNA Podcast About Nurses in Research! Mia Manzo Graduates and Looks Forward to Her Future as a Nursing Leader Congrats to NAHN member Mia Manzo, who is graduating from nursing school! Mia says, "I am proud to be the first nurse in my family, marking a significant milestone in both my personal journey and my family’s history. As a member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, I am committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare while advocating for the needs of underrepresented communities. This accomplishment reflects not only my dedication but also my desire to serve as a role model and advocate for others, especially those within the Hispanic community. I am excited to begin my career and contribute to meaningful change in the nursing profession."
Rocio Sanchez selected for the 2025 American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Youg Professional Voices cohort. Congrats to NAHN member Rocio Sanchez, BSN, RM, who was selected for the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Young Professional Voices cohort. The Young Professional Voices program recognizes nurse leaders who exhibit significant potential as a health care leader and demonstrates exemplary leadership within their organization, community and the nursing profession and embody innovation, influence and inclusion.
Elidia Tafoya Receives 2023 Friends of Nursing Award Congrats to NAHN member Elidia Tafoya, who received the Friends of Nursing Award, 2023, from the Association of California Nurse Leaders. The Friend of Nursing Award recognizes non-nurse individuals or organizations who have had significant, positive impact on the Nursing Profession, ACNL, the local nursing or health care community, and/or the health of people in a significant way.
Araceli Orozco Receives Endowment Education Scholarship Congratulations to NAHN member Araceli Orozco, who received the Endowment Education Scholarship from the National Association of School Nurses! The award is given to those advancing their education in school nursing.

Martha Benavides Grows Professional Career Join us in congratulating Martha for completing the Post Master’s UCSF AG-ACNP program and passing the boards exam for AG-ACNP-BC by ANCC this year! She was also promoted to NP III at UC Davis Health. Congrats, Martha!

Leda Garside receives Hillsboro Medical Center Foundation Los Heros de ¡Salud! Award 2024 Congratulations to Leda Garside, who received the Hillsboro Medical Center Foundation Los Heroes de ¡Salud! Award 2024! This award was presented in recognition of an outstanding business or individual for their innovative contributions to the ¡Salud! Program. Under her visionary leadership, ¡Salud! has evolved into a national model for community-based healthcare, prioritizing the needs of vineyards stewards and their families through comprehensive services that include medical, dental, vision, mental health and social care. Her focus on delivering cultural competent care and addressing social determinants of health has made her a trailblazer in healthcare in Oregon and across the nation. Leda's commitment to addressing healthcare disparities for the last 30 years, extend beyond the vineyards, as she actively serves on community outreach committees, coalitions and boards, advocating for Latino/a/x and Mesoamerican Indigenous healthcare practices. She also mentors future healthcare professionals and support initiates that trust and promotes upstreams approaches to healthcare challenges. Her legacy of leadership, dedication to equity and passion for improving access to care wil continue to inspire the ¡Salud! community and beyond for generations to come.
Esther Ibarra - Blue Cross Blue Shield AZ Volunteer of the Quarter Esther received the volunteer of the quarter award from her employer, Blue Cross Blue Shield AZ, for the number of hours she volunteers for her local NAHN chapter. As the recipient of the award, BCBSAZ donated $2,500 in my name to Angeles del Desierto Yuma Chapter. Congrats and thank you, Esther!

Francisco Brenes Receives the FNA Nursing Innovation and Creativity Icon Award We’re thrilled to announce that Francisco Brenes, Ph.D., APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, has been honored with the 2024 FNA Nursing Innovation and Creativity Icon Award in Psychiatric Nursing. As a leader at Florida International University, Francisco has pioneered programs graduating hundreds of psychiatric nurse practitioners and is committed to research on mental health challenges affecting diverse populations. His work, which includes addressing suicide disparities, addiction, and spirituality, has had a profound impact on psychiatric nursing and his community. Learn More
Linda Hughes Empowers Middle Schoolers with Lifesaving Skills Linda Hughes, a dedicated school nurse at Chisholm Trail Middle School, is making a remarkable impact by teaching students lifesaving skills. Through the Allied Health Sciences Club she founded, students earn CPR certification, organize blood and clothing drives, and cultivate a school garden. Recently, the club received a CPR training kit from AHA and Texas Children's Hospital. "The importance of cardiac safety cannot be overstated," Linda shared. "By equipping students with CPR knowledge, we empower them to respond confidently in emergencies." Learn More
