NAHN Immigration Toolkit: Helping the Immigrant Community to Know Their Rights

This session will introduce the NAHN’s Immigration Toolkit. We will discuss its necessity and implications, guiding nurses as healthcare professionals to effectively navigate recent policy changes regarding interactions with ICE agents in hospitals, clinics, and community settings. Participants will learn how to ensure compliance with HIPAA and understand the legal protections available. Additionally, we will cover strategies for supporting and advocating for patients who face threats from immigration enforcement.

Anti-DEI Legislation: Be Informed, Embrace the Power of Advocacy
June 26, 2025 | 8PM Eastern

A one-hour webinar will be held to examine an anti-DEI law, including the general prohibitions it entails and their implications. This session aims to clarify its relevance to NAHN chapters and their leadership, as well as to enhance understanding of their First Amendment rights and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least three key pieces of current or proposed anti-DEI legislation that impact healthcare settings.
  2. Participants will be able to articulate the potential negative effects of anti-DEI legislation on patient care, health equity, and professional practice.
  3. Participants will be able to describe at least two concrete actions to advocate for DEI principles within their workplaces and communities, including contacting legislators, engaging in professional discussions, and supporting relevant initiatives.
  4. Evaluate how anti-DEI policies impact patient care, access to services, and health outcomes—especially for marginalized communities—and discuss the broader implications for the healthcare workforce.
