Next Generation of Latinas in Nursing

The NAHN Membership Committee welcomes Dr. Tina Loarte-Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Connecticut Center for Nursing, and Liliana Trespalacios, BSN, RN, RMA, to connect Latina students with Latina nurses, educators, and leaders to foster mentorship and career guidance. This will be conducted through a one-time, 2-hour webinar where authors from Latina's in Nursing Volume 1 & II will present their journeys and stories of personal resilience and how to form a professional identity for better preparation for nursing practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Navigate with Confidence: Participants will be able to identify key strategies for academic success, personal resilience, and community building throughout the nursing school journey, with an emphasis on culturally relevant support systems and mentorship.
  2. Bridge the Gap to Practice: Participants will evaluate the transition from students to practicing nurse—including licensure prep, professional identity formation, and real-world expectations—while exploring diverse, non- traditional beyond the beside settings that align with their values and goals.
  3. Own Your Narrative, Change the Narrative: Participants will explore the power of storytelling to amplify their voices, advocate for equity in healthcare, and inspire systemic change—developing their own professional story as a tool for leadership, advocacy, and impact.

AUDIENCE 
NAHN student nurses, pre-nursing students, and NAHN members are also welcome to attend. NAHN pre-nursing students and nursing students are the targeted group for this webinar to provide inspiration and encouragement to help bridge the gap between academics and real-world practice as Latina nurses

NAHN Immigration Toolkit: Helping the Immigrant Community to Know Their Rights

This session will introduce the NAHN’s Immigration Toolkit. We will discuss its necessity and implications, guiding nurses as healthcare professionals to effectively navigate recent policy changes regarding interactions with ICE agents in hospitals, clinics, and community settings. Participants will learn how to ensure compliance with HIPAA and understand the legal protections available. Additionally, we will cover strategies for supporting and advocating for patients who face threats from immigration enforcement.

Anti-DEI Legislation: Be Informed, Embrace the Power of Advocacy
June 26, 2025 | 8PM Eastern

A one-hour webinar will be held to examine an anti-DEI law, including the general prohibitions it entails and their implications. This session aims to clarify its relevance to NAHN chapters and their leadership, as well as to enhance understanding of their First Amendment rights and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least three key pieces of current or proposed anti-DEI legislation that impact healthcare settings.
  2. Participants will be able to articulate the potential negative effects of anti-DEI legislation on patient care, health equity, and professional practice.
  3. Participants will be able to describe at least two concrete actions to advocate for DEI principles within their workplaces and communities, including contacting legislators, engaging in professional discussions, and supporting relevant initiatives.
  4. Evaluate how anti-DEI policies impact patient care, access to services, and health outcomes—especially for marginalized communities—and discuss the broader implications for the healthcare workforce.
